More Gator aid isn’t forthcoming

OK, I really don’t want to see the city of Atlanta burned to the ground again. But after the Atlanta Hawks scooped up University of Florida star Al Horford in last night’s NBA draft before the Memphis Grizzlies could get him, I admit that thought did cross my mind.
(Florida has won college basketball’s last two national championships, by the way. And I point that out only for the benefit of any non-Gator fans out there who might not be aware of that.)
Anyway, I’m still a Grizzlies fan, although not as enthusiastic a fan as I might have been had the team selected Horford or one of the other Gator players in the draft. At least the Grizzlies still have former Gator player Mike “Skinny” Miller.
In other draft-related developments, I noticed that the Los Angeles Lakers drafted Marc Gasol, the former Lausanne School star and brother of the Grizzlies’ Pau Gasol.
Hmmm. Pau would probably like to play with his brother and Lakers’ star Kobe Bryant wants to be traded. What about a straight-up Pau-for-Kobe swap?
Now I don’t know who would play defense or get a rebound for the Grizzlies if that trade happened, but I’m just sayin’….
(BTW, don’t start questioning why a blog that’s mostly about politics and government has a posting about the NBA draft. The way I see it, as long as the debt payments at the FedExForum are linked to the Grizzlies’ performance, news about the team still qualifies as a story about government.)
